Jezebel..

Well I haven’t written in a while so I figured I could tell the story of me past week.  It’s a little long but I think it's worth it.  Enjoy.  :)

I have the job of being a house sitter.  If they have plants and/or pets I watch them as well.  Through word of mouth I had recently gotten another job.  This one was going to be an interesting one.  What I had to do was take care of an arthritic 13 year old dog named Jezebel.  When I met up with the owners the way they had told me to take care of their dog was getting quite ridiculous.  I already had to wake up at 5 am for her to get her out before school which was enough of a problem.  I also had to watch her after school and give her 2 pills for her bladder and 1 pain pill for her arthritis.  They wanted me to fry her up an egg in the morning!  Jezz, I have to go to school I can't be doing that.  Also they told me to use a treat to get her in and out of the house.  She was already a bit chunky and I started to realize why.  I thought this was going to be a pain in the ass job but I was pleasantly surprised.

The very first day she listened to me like I was her owner for those 13yrs of her life. She did everything I asked of her and more.  She took her pills with no problem and getting her to eat was a breeze.  All I had to do was ask her to!  She went right over to her bowl and began eating.  Treats were totally not needed at all.  I was blown away.  If I told her to lie down on her blanket and go to bed she would!  I was so happy.  She was also the sweetest dog I have encountered in a while.  Poor old girl was so wobbly at times.  She even had trouble standing.  If I was her I would have been miserable!

Then the second day I went after school to check up on her and she started barking for me to play with her ball.  I didn't want her to be sad so I did.  Only 3 times out of the 20 times I threw it did she actually catch it but she was so happy she had!  I could see the little puppy in her coming through that old shell of hers.  From then on she won my heart.

After that I hung out with her a half hour before school an hour after school and two hours at night.  I was looking at her the other day and her big brown eyes were so happy.  All I was doing was rubbing behind her ears and she couldn't be happier.  Her eyes told me a story.  They were so old but had the vibrancy of a little puppy.  I knew she didn't feel as old as she was.  She’s the type of dog that could kill you with kisses and she attempted murder a few times with me haha.  She was such a sweetie pie.  She taught me a think or two in our short time together.

She made me think of how nuts I can get sometimes and how unnecessary it is.  All she wanted was her ball and for you to pet her.  That alone was making her happy.  Although she is almost gone she's going to live her life out the way she wants it.  The whole time I was there I never saw her mope around.  She is a true testament to you are as old as you feel.  Well last week I was babysitting a puppy, that’s for sure.  I will never forget that old girl.

Who knew that a week with a 13 year old arthritic dog named Jezebel could change a part of me for the better.
