Thousands Audition to Play Young Han Solo

han_solos.jpg

There can only be a single Solo. But over 2,500 actors have auditioned to play a young Han in an upcoming Star Wars spinoff, the Hollywood Reporter reported recently, from Hollywood. The movie is expected to be released on May 25, 2018, which leaves a couple light years for casting director Jeanne McCarty and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller to fill that vest. The trio worked together on 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street, and it would be funny if they called the movie 23 Jump Street just to make Star Wars nerds angry.

Disney and Lucasfilm have named their project to find the next Solo “Red Cup” after the ubiquitous party cup sold by Solo Cup Corp (good one, Mickey!). The project is aiming to cast someone who looks like a young Harrison Ford, who was 35 when A New Hope was released.

Actors who have auditioned include Dave Franco (who I wouldn’t cast to play James Franco’s brother), Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Miles Teller,  Jurassic World's Nick Robinson,  Kickin' It's Leo Howard, The Purge's Tony Oller, and Chandler Riggs, the 16-year-old star of The Walking Dead, as well as 73-year old Harrison Ford holding a skateboard and wearing a Weezer t-shirt acting “all hip” (ok, I lied about the last one).

Meanwhile, The Force Awakens opens December 18. Stay on target!
