The human body has holes. Not very many, and they're not very big, but big enough that in our stupidity, some of us have decided to stick things up them. Things we're not supposed to.

When that goes wrong, as it inevitably does, only an embarrassing trip to the doctor can fix it. But before a doctor can extract anything they have to know what they're dealing with, and for that they need an X-ray. These 21 images show X-rays of surprising things doctors found in people's bodies. From funny mistakes to concerning conditions, these X-rays all have something seriously wrong with them.

One image comes from a viral news story from last year, when a man from Bali was saved by an emergency surgery that extracted more than 600 nails from his stomach. Unfortunately his mental health was also an issue. See that X-ray and others in this strange gallery.
