All the way back in 2004, Google acquired Keyhole and Keyhole's "Earth Viewer." One year later, the iconic "Google Earth" and "Google Maps" services were born. Since then, Google has continuously updated their database of images covering just about the entire world, and you've probably seen a Google car driving around at some point.
