After weeks of ridicule, Rachel Gunn, aka Raygun, has broken her silence to say that she’s still the best female breakdancer in Australia.

Yeah. Right.

For context, a cursory YouTube search pulls up videos from people like Scarlett Frances aka B-Girl Scar, whose Indigenous Outreach Projects performance is sure to impress. The page for Destructive Steps, which calls itself “Australia’s Largest Annual Street Dance Festival,” also has several performances that are both spectacular and, honestly, emotionally moving.

Raygun, in contrast, hopped like a kangaroo.

With that context laid out, Gunn had already previously responded to criticism, saying that she tried her hardest and that her and her family had received a considerable amount of hate since her showing in the Olympics.

Now, she’s sat down for an extensive interview with The Project. She argues that she took a more artistic approach when compared to her competitors, and says that she joined knowing full well that she was likely to lose. At the same time, she reiterates that she received a lot of hate in the weeks since and that this has been one of the most emotionally difficult times of her life.

While I have sympathy for her position, she also had to know that there are consequences when you volunteer to shit the bed on international television. She also says that her “record” speaks to the fact that she’s the best female breakdancer in Australia — which, if that’s really true, God help the community.
