Every animal has a different way of showing off their worth for their potential mates. For some animals, this involves a sort of choreographed maneuver to demonstrate your strength; for us humans, it involves carefully crafting the perfect DM.

Elk do things a bit differently. Rather than just show themselves off visually, they also want to show off how attractive they *smell* to their mates. To do this, they pee all over themselves.
